Higher arrival times in fourth quarter

Friday 8 February 2019
In the fourth quarter of 2018, the arrival times for IM recovery operators were slightly higher than the figures achieved in the previous quarters. 23,703 IM recovery operations were undertaken with an average arrival time of 13:37 minutes. Corrected for delays as a result of congestion, the average figure was 11:51 minutes. During the first three quarters of the year, these averages had amounted to 13:21 minutes and (following correction) at 11:43 minutes, respectively. In the fourth quarter, arrival times are often longer than in the rest of the year as a result of heavy road use. The fourth quarter of 2018 was the busiest ever, but the rise as compared with previous periods was relatively small: just 3% above the figure for the third quarter and 4% above the figure for the fourth quarter in 2017.

One of the fastest recovery operators in the fourth quarter was BCF Mobiliteit in Sneek. This company succeeded in completing all 59 recovery orders in district F17 (Sneek) with an arrival time within the standard time of 20 minutes during the day and 25 minutes at night. This represents a performance that far exceeds the contractual requirement that states that at least 90% of orders must be carried out within the standard arrival times. In most cases, BCF did not need the longer standard time at night. Following a report at the IJlst turnoff on the N7 on 14 October, at 1.25 a.m., the recovery operator reached the scene within just 10 minutes. BCF was one of the nine IM recovery operators that succeeded in achieving a 100% score in one or more districts in the fourth quarter.

The tables only show those districts for which a complete quarterly report was issued in the last quarter. These are districts in which ten or more recovery operations were carried out and districts for which the quarter just ended was the last in a series of quarters, the cumulative total for which amounts to the minimum of ten recovery operations required for drawing up a report. Average arrival times are reported following correction for delays due to traffic congestion. In determining the kilometres of road in each district, the two carriageways of roads with divided carriageways are counted as separate roads. No rights may be derived from the information in the tables.
