Even quicker

Thursday 6 August 2020
In the second quarter of 2020 IM recovery operators worked even quicker than in the record-breaking quarter that preceded it. The average response time was 10:13 minutes, twelve seconds quicker than in Q1. 19,624 recoveries were carried out in total. That was around 22% fewer than in the first quarter. As the pressure of work was lower, many recovery operators had the opportunity to respond quicker than might otherwise have been the case. Roos Autoberging in Capelle aan den IJssel (231 recoveries) and Delta Berging in Ermelo and Lelystad (432) were almost two minutes quicker than in the first three months of the year.

Bergnet in Amsterdam, with 1,821 recoveries, recorded a time saving of nearly one minute per call-out. This was also the case with Hoogwout Berging (507 recoveries) in Zaandam, and Jan de Graaf Jr. in Rotterdam (1,057). Takel-, Berging- en Transportbedrijf A. Barendregt in Rhoon achieved an average response time for all districts in which the company operates of 6:42 minutes (1,844 recoveries), an improvement of its own record of 6:58 minutes, set in 2019.

Alas, not all operators were able to benefit from the circumstances. Absence from work due to illness at the start of the quarter made it difficult for some recovery companies to operate at full capacity. For these companies this led, at the start of the quarter in particular, to longer response times.

As in the previous quarter, Van Amerongen Berging in Arnhem was the recovery operator covering the largest geographical area to record a response time of less than ten minutes. The company achieved this in seven districts, with 358 km of IM roads. In addition, Van Amerongen was able to carry out all recoveries in three of its districts with a response time that was under the contractual standard time of twenty minutes during the day, and twenty-five minutes at night time. Among the other companies to record similar performance was, as in the previous quarter, Kraanbedrijf Stouwdam, Oldebroek (Gelderland). This operator was on site well under the standard time for all 53 recoveries carried out in district GL235, in and around Wezep.

The tables list only districts for which a complete quarterly report has been published for the quarter just ended. These are districts in which twenty or more recovery operations were carried out and districts for which the quarter just ended was the last in a series of quarters in which the minimum of twenty recovery operations required for drawing up a report was exceeded. Average response times are reported following correction for delays as a result of congestion. In determining the kilometres of road in each district, the two carriageways of roads with divided carriageways are counted as separate roads. No rights may be derived from the information on the tables.
