Recovery operators warn road users of danger on the road

Friday 30 November 2018
Since the start of this month, IM recovery operators have been able to send electronic safety warnings to car drivers. Recovery drivers at work on the road can pass on a warning notice via an app on their smartphone. That notice is then transmitted to road users as a safety warning via the traffic information system. This way, road users are informed of approaching hazards, before they reach the incident location.

The system for the transmission of safety warnings is supplied by the Flister based in Almere. The so-called Flister PRO App has already been installed on the mobile telephone of more than one hundred recovery specialists. The warnings received by users via Flister have a noticeable effect, especially at incidents with no congestion. Approaching traffic is better prepared and more cautious.

The first contacts with Flister were established at the end of 2016 by IM recovery operator H. Roos Autoberging in Capelle aan den IJssel. Roos has been using the service on his own initiative since that time. The experience acquired by the Capelle-based operator encouraged Stichting IMN to sign a national agreement with Flister. That agreement offers all IM recovery operators the possibility of passing on safety reports. Flister is also used in the Netherlands by ambulances, Rijkswaterstaat road inspectors and other emergency services.

The Flister service is provided free of charge to all recovery operators contracted by Stichting IMN and its truck counterpart Stichting Incident Management Vrachtautos (STIMVA). The Flister PRO App is available from the Apple en Google app stores. Login data and user instructions can be obtained via flister@flister.nl.
