The world of Peter Stuyvesant
Friday, February 12, 2016 (update March 15, 2016)
With 16,876 completed recoveries, the fourth quarter of 2015 was the busiest ever in the history of incident management in the Netherlands. It was also the last quarter in which Stichting Incident Management Nederland was able to call in the services of Takel- en Bergingsbedrijf G. Thomas based on the Peter Stuyvesantweg in Oldetrijne. Director Gerrit Thomas has sold his recovery activities, and from 1 February 2016 onwards will be focusing on his garage business.
Gerrit, Gert, Rijmie and Tonni Thomas
Thomas first became a recovery operator in 1983. From a very young age, his two sons would take turns to accompany him. In the ninety nineties, one recovery operation involved Muizenstad, a fairground attraction with four thousand tame mice, that still exists to this day. It took several weeks for him to clear his business premises of mice. Following the introduction of the Incident Management Arrival Time system (AIM) in 2007, Thomas was soon identified as one of the country's fastest recovery operators. The company arrived at the scene within twenty minutes of receiving practically all IM recovery orders. This rapid response was no longer needed last weekend, for the first time.
Despite the high demands placed on them, IM recovery companies delivered excellent performance in the fourth quarter. The average arrival time for all recoveries was 14:11 minutes. Corrected for delays as a consequence of congestion, this figure amounted to 12:19 minutes. The performance by Koolen Garage- en Bergingsbedrijf in Emmen was particularly commendable. Just like Thomas, this company operates in an area with relatively little work. Nonetheless, director Peter Koolen succeeded in arriving at all reported incidents within the set standard time.
The table below shows which companies completed 95% or more of all recovery orders with an arrival time within the daytime standard of 20 minutes, and 25 minutes, at night. Companies that arrived at all reported incidents within the standard time are marked with a star. Stichting Incident Management Nederland would like to thank all IM recovery operators for their excellent efforts.
