IM reports as text message on iPhone
Friday 5 April 2013
This year, Stichting Incident Management Nederland will be introducing a system for passing on IM reports as text messages on smartphones. This system, known as the Electronic Reporting System Incident Management ("EMI"), sends every IM report as an electronic message to a phone designated by the recovery company. The message is received by all iOS (iPhone and Ipad) and Android (smartphones and tablets) devices. The message will take the form shown in the image below.
For the companies intending to use EMI, a whole raft of new possibilities will emerge:
- location and other details of the report need not be noted down, but are immediately available in written form;
- by accepting an incoming message, the recovery company avoids being called by the LCM after the message has been read;
- the recovery company can pass on the report in the form of an SMS message to one of its drivers;
- an IM order can be cancelled via EMI.
There is no requirement to make use of the new text messages. Recovery companies that prefer to stick to the tried and tested system of telephone calls will in the future simply continue to be called by the LCM. The EMI service will be provided free of charge. To be able to use the system, however, the recovery company will need to be in possession of a smartphone or tablet with Internet subscription.
During the course of the year, a pilot for the introduction of EMI will be launched at six recovery companies. The results of this trial will be used to ensure the best possible system match, with operational practice. The next step is the introduction of the system across the entire network. During the course of 2013, all IM recovery companies will be approached by the LCM with further information about the new reporting system. EMI was developed by Stichting Incident Management Nederland in collaboration with Allianz Global Assistance.
