Stewards of the road
Thursday 22 September 2011 (2nd update)
The 93 IM recovery companies form a reliable network available 24 hours a day to immediately swing into action following incidents on the 4,500 kilometres of trunk road. They are the stewards of the trunk road network. In the second quarter of 2011, in total, the IM recovery companies processed 18,991 reports of accidents, broken-down vehicles at hazardous locations or cars abandoned at the roadside. The average arrival time for all recoveries was 13:32 minutes, ten seconds faster than the record achieved in the previous quarter. Following correction for delays as a result of traffic congestion, the net average arrival time was 11:31 minutes, itself a new record.
Each quarter, Stichting Incident Management Nederland publishes a list of districts in which recovery companies succeeded in at least 95% of all orders in arriving at the incident location within twenty minutes of receiving the report. In the second quarter of 2011, featuring 49 districts, this list was longer than ever. In 21 districts - once again a better score than ever before - recovery companies arrived at all incidents within twenty minutes. These districts are marked in the table with a . Districts in which the performance relates to multiple quarters are marked with an abbreviation for the quarters in question. In these districts, multiple quarters were needed to arrive at a total of 10 callouts.
As well as the traditional table-leaders, this quarter's table includes a number of newcomers from all parts of the country: Wolves in Overijssel, Kuzee in Zeeland, Hoogwout in Noord-Holland, Barendregt in Zuid-Holland, Neuteboom in Gelderland and the Gebroeders Van Dongen in Noord-Brabant. All achieved a 100% score in districts never previously listed in the table. Stichting Incident Management Nederland would like to thank all these recovery companies and their colleagues for the performance delivered over the past quarter.
