Incidents above all during evening rush hour and in weekend lead-up
Wednesday 19 November 2008
Accidents above all occur during the evening rush hour and on Thursday and Friday. These facts were reflected in an analysis of incident reports received by Stichting Incident Management Nederland in 2007. On an average working day, the National Central Reporting Point (LCM) of Stichting Incident Management Nederland dealt with 143 reports on the trunk roads. Of those reports, on average 48 (34%) were received during the evening rush hour (15.00 - 19.00 hours) as compared to 34 (24%) in the morning hours (06.00 - 10.00 hours). Thursday and Friday were the busiest days for the LCM. On those days, an average of 150 incidents were reported on the trunk road system, as compared to 138 on other working days.
Incidents on motorways were not only concentrated towards the end of the day and the week, but also the end of the year. November and December were the busiest months in 2007. During those months, 5,000 and 4,400 incidents were reported, respectively, to the LCM, as compared to a monthly average of just over 3,800.
